The story, based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale, tells the story of Maximillian the Most, Emperor of Wit’s End, who after his son Lester the Lost was kidnapped, has lost all interest in life - except for new clothes. It is the day before a great royal procession celebrating the Prince’s birthday and Emperor Maximillian (Mike Morehouse) is in a quandary because he has nothing new to wear. Summoning his Royal Court, Lady Winifred of Wardrobe (Madyson Crutchfield), Sir Ivan of Inventory (Nicholas Casarona), Sinister, the Prime Minister (Braden Norton), and Chester the Jester (Trey Blackman), the Emperor dictates a royal decree and sends the Herald (Matt Hurst) throughout the land in search of tailors to outfit the Emperor in new clothes. Enter two con artists - Stitch (Larry James Cook) and Sew (Skinner McLane) who claim to be able to sew invisible clothes seen only by those wise enough to see them and worthy of their positions. The Emperor immediately commissions the tailors to produce the clothes, leaving hid wife, Carlotta the Least (Melissa Hayes) to foot the bill. Stitch and Sew almost get away with their ruse, but are foiled by a lovely scullery maid, Verity (Laura Fagan) who, with a pair of magic glasses exposes the imposters, finds Prince Lester the Lost, returns him to his parents, and restores order to Wit’s End. The cast is rounded out by a featured chorus of Lords and Ladies of the Royal Court: Sara-Beth Cook, Jared Duskin, Emily Milford, Karen Poer, Alan Pruitt, Morgan Quinton, Taylor Quinton, Jackson Scroggs, Jefferson Scroggs, Jessica Watts, Ari Welch, Chanel Wells, and Gail White. With music and lyrics by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy, this Prince Street Players production follows a long line of successful adaptations including "Snow White Goes West," "Aladdin," "Jack and the Beanstalk," and others. |
